Mjällby's Axel Norén and Hammarby's Victor Eriksson. National team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson offers two surprises in the national team. They have been good in Allsvenskan. It is a step up for them. I give them confidence by selecting them, then it is up to them to take the chance, he says.

Even Alexander Bernhardsson, who has scored goals for Kiel in the German Bundesliga this season, is selected.

He is one of the better ones in the league at coming in behind the defense and creating chances. I see a lot that he can contribute to the national team, says the national team captain at Wednesday's press conference.

Eriksson and Bernhardsson have blue-yellow experience from the now-abandoned January tour.

Fresh

Norén, on the other hand, is completely fresh in the context. The 26-year-old returned to Mjällby before the season after excursions to Gefle, Falkenberg, and Gais – and has played brilliantly during the club's successful year.

Norén's way of using the ball... and how forward-thinking he has been. He and Victor have been really good in the series. Eriksson is solid and doesn't miss a header duel, says Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Newcastle star Alexander Isak has been struggling with a groin injury at the end of the Premier League season, but is selected.

We'll have to wait and see how it is with him. Hopefully, he can participate in the matches, says "JDT".

Even goal king Viktor Gyökeres is back. The fresh Portuguese champion missed the previous gathering in March due to injury, but now the Sporting Lisbon forward is included. As well as midfielder Hugo Larsson, Eintracht Frankfurt.

Uncertain with Kulusevski

Several players are injured – for example, Tottenham duo Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Bergvall are missing.

Especially the absence of Kulusevski bothers.

I want him here all the time, not just as a player but as a leader. He is a big character. He will always be missed, says Dahl Tomasson.

The national team captain cannot provide any information about Kulusevski's knee operation keeping him away even when the World Championship qualification begins. It starts in September, with Slovenia and Kosovo waiting in two away matches.

"A cruel world"

Experienced players like Ludwig Augustinsson, Emil Forsberg, Jens Cajuste, Mattias Svanberg, and Emil Krafth are missing in the squad for the national team matches against Hungary in Budapest on June 6 and at home against Algeria four days later.

Football is a cruel world. I've talked to them, and they were disappointed and would rather have been there. But the door is not closed. It was a different squad in March, it can be a new one in September, says Jon Dahl Tomasson.
