Mjällby's Tom Pettersson was the first to dare believe in the Swedish Championship gold in football. As early as Sunday, it may become a reality. Now there is no one laughing anymore when I say that we will win, he says.

If Hammarby lose points away against IFK Göteborg, it's clear that Mjällby take the SM gold. The Blekinge team will of course gather and watch the match together – and naturally cheer on Blåvitt.

I haven't seen Hammarby's matches at the end, but tomorrow I will watch since it can become mathematically clear. But it's unfortunately outside our control. We'll see, says defender Tom Pettersson who became one of the goal scorers in the 2–0 win against Elfsborg on Saturday.

35-year-old Pettersson, with a past in IFK Göteborg, became the first in Mjällby to openly talk about the SM gold.

I've probably been going on for some years now. I was completely alone, but Jesper Gustavsson (the team captain) wasn't hard to convince. He jumped on it right away.

Now everyone believes in victory

It took its time, but over time more Mjällby players have caught on.

It's probably a prerequisite for being able to win, that you actually genuinely believe in it. And that's what everyone does here, says Tom Pettersson who is doing his third season in the club.

How long have you thought that there's a chance to win the SM gold with Mjällby?

Maybe after some month here. People didn't understand what potential there was here. It didn't look so good then, but there was still something in the group that I came to in 2023.

Tom Pettersson is no fan of goals like new contracts or placing themselves in the middle of the table.

I don't understand why you shouldn't have a goal to win all matches and have 90 points as a goal. If it doesn't become that, which it probably won't, you have to adjust and win the rest that's left.

Celebrate three points with chanterelles

Now, when it's so close, Mjällby players long for the gold to become mathematically clear.

I just want it to be clear as soon as possible, says goalkeeper Noel Törnqvist who next week will join the national team for the upcoming World Championship qualifiers.

Even Saturday's 1–0 scorer Jacob Bergström is on the same track.

As soon as possible. We'll see how it goes tomorrow, it will be interesting to see, says Bergström.

And even if the gold is not yet mathematically clear, Mjällby can during Saturday evening celebrate another victory during their successful 2025.

Chanterelle pasta will be on the menu today, says Jacob Bergström.
