Former AIK coach Andreas Brännström will take over Mjällby as head coach for the rest of the year. He led the team in 2022.
If I compare it to when I was there four years ago, I actually come to a Mjällby that is in a much better position in all other areas. They have more money, a bigger staff, a broader squad. There are quite a few positive things. So it's about solving the short-term so that the whole club can then take a pretty good step, Brännström tells Expressen.
The Blekinge club made the decision to let the coach go after Monday's 4-1 loss to IFK Göteborg, the team's ninth defeat this year.
One point from qualifying
Mjällby is in 12th place in the Swedish league, just one point above the relegation zone. The team has eleven games left to play this fall.
Club manager Jacob Lennartsson tells the club's website that it is the right time to make the change in the coaching staff.
Sports director Hasse Larsson:
"Now our focus is on creating the best possible conditions for the team and the association going forward."
Norwegian Karl Marius Aksum has been with the club for three years and took over as head coach this year after Anders Torstensson left as coach after last autumn's Swedish Championship gold medal.

Brännström's contract runs through the year with an extension clause.
"Andreas knows the club, our environment and many of the people here from before. At the same time, he has gained further experience from both Swedish and international elite football since he was last here. We have had a clear picture of what type of leader we are looking for and Andreas fits well into the direction we want to take," says Hasse Larsson.
It was a shock when Mjällby won the Swedish Championship gold medal last year, and they also broke the Swedish league scoring record with 75 points in 30 rounds.
The gold meant that the team lost many players. Among them were the Swedish World Cup defenders Herman Johansson, who left last winter, and Elliot Stroud, who left during the summer window.
