At the close, the broad S&P 500 index rose 0.1 percent while the tech-heavy Nasdaq gained 0.2 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.1 percent.
Tech giant Microsoft started the trading day lower after a new ownership agreement with OpenAI, but ended the day slightly higher. Later this week, Microsoft and several other major tech companies will report quarterly results.
Elsewhere, markets are closely watching negotiations between the US and Iran, which continue to be dominated by statements and information.
As a result, oil prices are once again climbing steadily. At 10 p.m., North Sea oil was trading at around $108 a barrel.
