Sprinter Julia Henriksson failed to qualify for the European Championships final in the 100 metres in Rome.

The 23-year-old Swede finished fifth in her semi-final in 11.27.

Her time was eight hundredths of a second slower than her personal best and she finished 14th overall in the semi-finals.

Henriksson needed to run 11.13 – and thereby break Linda Haglund's 44-year-old Swedish record (11.16) – to make it to the final.

Henriksson will already be running her heat on Monday on her preferred distance of 200 metres.
