"Baby doll" was intended as a duet between the artists, but according to Kylie Minogue, her record company was not too keen on her recording something where the company was not involved.
The song came about after Kylie Minogue and Prince met backstage at one of his concerts in London. When they later hung out in a hotel room, Prince asked "Where's your text?" and Minogue had to quickly come up with some lines for a future song.
Prince recorded the song in his studio in Minneapolis and sent a demo cassette to the Australian singer, who then lost it. However, she suspects that the song may still exist in Prince's estate.
Now, a
that only seems to post videos and songs by Prince has uploaded the demo recording of "Baby doll". Many fans hope in the comments that Kylie Minogue will eventually record her own version – together with Prince's voice.
