The incident occurred during an ICE operation targeting undocumented immigrants in Minnesota. The woman allegedly attempted to run over an ICE representative, according to the Department of Homeland Security, which classified the incident as a suspected terrorist offense.
President Donald Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform, described the incident, which was captured on video, as “horrific to witness.” However, he blamed the incident on “the radical left” and claimed that the shooting “appears to have been … in self-defense.”
Sharply critical
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, however, was sharply critical of the intervention and said that the ICE representative acted recklessly.
"They (ICE representatives) are not here to create security in the city. They are not bringing security to the United States. They are creating chaos and distrust," said a clearly angry mayor.
Frey referred to the video released shortly after the incident:
They are trying to change the story to make it about self-defense. I have seen the video myself. I want to tell everyone - without hesitation - the accusation is bullshit.
Investigation begins
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, a Democrat, accused the Trump administration of behaving like a "propaganda machine" when it claimed that the woman attempted to commit an act of terrorism.
I have seen the video. Do not believe this propaganda machine. The state will ensure that there is a full, credible and prompt investigation to demand accountability and justice.
ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, is a federal law enforcement agency tasked with protecting the United States against cross-border crime and irregular immigration.
