The Swedish National Property Board wants to increase the rent for the Ethnographic Museum in Stockholm by 57 percent. Therefore, the Museums of World Cultures plan to terminate the agreements and close the Mediterranean Museum and the East Asian Museum in Stockholm.
Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand (M) tells SVT's Kulturnyheterna that she has received the budget documents and is familiarizing herself with the situation. However, she emphasizes that the rent issue itself is not under her ministry's responsibility.
"The Swedish National Property Board has a set of regulations that it follows and that are not under my ministry. My ministry is working to look at the situation for these museums and find out what happened in order to be able to work further," she tells SVT.
