In a fresh review, the National Audit Office concludes that the government and authorities' work against economic violence in close relationships is inadequate.

Among other things, the National Audit Office makes a recommendation to the government to map the need for legislative measures. In a written comment to TT, Minister for Gender Equality Nina Larsson (L) says she welcomes the review.

"The government has recently assigned a task to several authorities to ensure that there are well-functioning routines in place to help those who have been subjected to this type of violence," writes Larsson.

Larsson – and also Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer (M) – refers to an ongoing investigation that will make it easier for women to leave violent men. The investigation is expected to be completed by December at the latest.

"The investigation will simplify the process of property division and consideration period during divorce. Economic violence must never be accepted," writes Larsson.

"Men's violence against women must cease on all levels. Economic independence is a prerequisite for being able to leave a destructive relationship," writes Larsson further.
