"Not afraid but prepared." This is how Minister of Labor Johan Britz (L) describes the situation after President Trump once again threatened tariffs against Sweden and other countries.
"That's why I'm calling export industry stakeholders to an emergency meeting," he says.
An invitation goes out on Tuesday.
A fairly modest assessment says tens of thousands of jobs in the Swedish export industry would be directly affected by such tariffs. Even more would be affected indirectly, Britz says.
Measures available are the same as those used during the financial crisis and the pandemic.
"I foresee that, for example, short-time work could be something we need to be prepared for," Britz says, adding that he fears the recovery in the labor market will now face a setback.
