Greenna Mineral has applied for a permit to mine rare earth metals, lead, niobium and zirconium in the area.

However, the Östergötland County Administrative Board believes that the permit should be granted subject to conditions to protect ecologically sensitive areas such as the Hålaveden nature reserve.

This assessment is not shared by the mining inspector, who believes that such a condition should be imposed in a future environmental assessment.

"My position is that the concession should be granted, which we also emphasized in our statement to the government," says mining engineer Helena Kjellson in a press release from the Geological Survey of Sweden.
