The 29-year-old Swede got a good start with a birdie on the third hole. The next birdie was delayed until hole 13, but then came the crash. Bogies on holes 14 and 15 were followed by a double bogey on the 16th, after a four-putt. And so the day was ruined for Svensson.
He finished the round two over par and the tournament on –9, which gave him a tied 27th place on Memorial Park Golf Course.
Svensson played in the same threesome as Scottie Scheffler. The American world number one managed, together with his compatriot Gary Woodland, to finally put pressure on the leading Min Woo Lee.
But the 26-year-old Australian could, despite a water visit and bogey on the 16th hole, hold on to his first PGA tour title. Min Woo Lee won on –20 total, one stroke ahead of Scheffler and Woodland.
Next week, the PGA tour stays in Texas. Ludvig Åberg will then be in the starting field in San Antonio and prepares for the year's first major – US Masters on Augusta National, 10–13 April.
