Millions of computers are at risk of becoming vulnerable to security threats on October 14, reports Sveriges Radio Ekot. The reason is that Microsoft is discontinuing the operating system Windows 10, which means that security updates will stop being sent out.

Although the shutdown is less than two weeks away, a large number of computers have not yet been upgraded to the new version Windows 11. Some computers are also too old to be upgraded.

That means we are talking about millions of computers that risk becoming a security threat. Both for their own user but also for all of us where criminals use one for different types of attacks, says Martin Appel, at the magazine PC for all, to the radio.

According to Microsoft, protecting users' security is "Microsoft's highest priority and one of the most important reasons why we continuously update our software”.

After harsh criticism of the shutdown, the company has introduced the possibility of extra extension of Windows 10 for EU users who under certain conditions can provide protection for another year.
