When the stadium was built in the 1960s, the owner ran into financial problems. He partially solved these by selling 99-year ownership contracts for the stadium's stands, which are thus private property.
Azteca is therefore the only one of the 16 World Cup stadiums in Mexico, the United States and Canada where the stands do not have to be handed over to FIFA for the World Cup matches this summer.
Instead, they are now offered for rent on WhatsApp. But anyone who wants to watch the five World Cup matches that will be played at the stadium will need a heavy wallet.
In a WhatsApp post seen by the news agency Bloomberg, a box with 27 seats is offered for 27 million pesos (14.4 million kronor).
Another box, with 15 seats, is offered for the equivalent of 4 million kronor.
