The Ukrainian Institute in Sweden receives nine million kronor from the government to preserve and strengthen Ukrainian culture.

The support will, among other things, make it possible for Ukrainian artists to continue working despite Russia's ongoing war of aggression, which has now been going on for three years.

"Culturally and historically important sites, such as museums, theaters, libraries, and monuments have been looted and razed to the ground. By depriving Ukraine of its unique cultural and historical heritage, it becomes easier for Russia to claim that Ukraine is not an independent country. It is therefore urgent to support the survival of Ukraine's cultural heritage," says Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa in a press release on Monday.

The struggle for culture is a deeply existential question directly linked to Ukraine's survival, says Natalya Pasichnyk, director of the Ukrainian Institute, to Kulturnytt on Swedish Radio.

According to Pasichnyk, the support will also be used to counter disinformation.

The support of nine million kronor is intended for the years 2025-2027.
