The final bill for the IT attack on Kalmar Municipality in February was a total of nine million kronor. Unpleasant, thinks the chairman of the municipal council, since the municipality had invested nearly ten million kronor in IT security before the attack.
That's why it feels extra unpleasant. We were considered one of the municipalities in the country with the best IT security, says Johan Persson (S) to SVT News Kalmar.
Behind the attack was the Russian hacker group Akira. The consequence was that the municipality was forced to introduce manual routines for a period.
Next year, Kalmar Municipality will invest an additional eight million kronor in IT security.
