A practice torpedo recently used in a military exercise outside Australian Queensland was found early on Thursday morning on a tourist beach in Main Beach south of Brisbane.
The object was discovered by a person walking their dog and lifeguards on the beach. A larger area was cordoned off while the object was examined by police and the Australian Defence Force (ADF), writes The Guardian.
The beach could reopen later in the day. The object, which turned out to be a torpedo, has been taken away by the defence, according to the police.
The ADF will investigate what went wrong and why they were unable to take care of it, says Leon Wort at the police.
