The crash of a small transport plane took place on Friday near Kwenge in Kwango province. On board was a delegation of lawyers and officials working in the country's military. All 13 passengers and four crew members died.
One of them, Joseph Mutombo, was the chief judge of the country's military supreme court. Also killed was Lucien-René Likulia, the chief auditor in charge of the country's military forces. Likulia was known as the prosecutor in the trial of former president Joseph Kabila, in which Kabila was sentenced to death in absentia.
President Felix Tshisekedi has ordered an investigation into the cause of the crash.
