Milei has signed a presidential decree targeting anyone who "spreads or incites hateful information" against Argentina or Argentines.
He says the measure is a response to several recent "expressions of hostility" and claims that the decree does not violate freedom of expression.
Right-wing politician and Donald Trump supporter Milei has in the past week accused Brazil, Mexico and Democrats in the US, among others, of "anti-Argentine campaigns", partly referring to criticism of the Argentine team's behaviour after the World Cup final.
