The hand gesture with the raised right arm that Elon Musk made on stage when Donald Trump was installed as president on Monday has been seen by some as a Roman greeting. Others have seen a fascist greeting or just an emotional expression.
In the latter group is Benjamin Netanyahu, who on Thursday wrote that Musk was unfairly smeared.
"Elon is a great friend to Israel", writes Netanyahu and continues to describe how Musk has stood behind Israel's "right to defend itself against terrorists".
Javier Milei's outburst came at the World Economic Forum in Swiss Davos, where he said that his "dear friend Musk" had been "slandered by wokeism in the last few hours for an innocent gesture".
"Woke" can be described as a collective term for awareness of justice and inclusion, which in some circles is seen as excessive political correctness. Milei calls it in his speech a mental virus and "our time's great epidemic that must be cured. It is the cancer that must be removed".
He praises in his speech Musk and leaders like Donald Trump, Benjamin Netanyahu, Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele.
Slowly, an international alliance has formed of all the nations that want to be free and who believe in the ideas of freedom, says Milei.
