The mild winter means that hedgehogs can wake up from their hibernation too early, says wildlife rehabilitator Alexandra Gedda to Sveriges Radio, P4 Kalmar.
There is no food now, the insects are not out and moving now, she says to P4 Kalmar.
A found hedgehog can be kept for a maximum of 48 hours. To help it fall asleep again, you can build a nest with dry material inside and place it outdoors, according to Alexandra Gedda. A captured hedgehog can return to hibernation if it finds something to eat, she explains.
Hedgehogs live on beetles, larvae, and earthworms. But they also eat cat food, preferably wet canned food or soaked dry food. However, they should not drink milk.
If the hedgehog looks sick, it should be taken to a wildlife rehabilitator, according to Alexandra Gedda.
