"The club wants to give a warm welcome to Sérgio and his team, we wish them a journey filled with successes", Milan writes about the transition.

Conceição has signed a contract that extends until the summer of 2026. The Portuguese's latest assignment as head coach was in Porto.

Regarding Fonseca's departure, Milan wrote earlier on Monday that "the club is grateful for Paulo's great professionalism and we wish him good luck in the future".

The now former head coach came to Milan from French Lille as recently as last summer. After the first 17 matches this season, Milan is in eighth place in Serie A. During his time in the club, Fonseca won 12 out of 24 matches – and it cost the Portuguese his job.

Fonseca himself confirmed his departure already after Sunday's 1–1 match at home against Roma:

It's true, I'm fired. Such is life. I did everything I could, said Fonseca.

For Milan's part, the next step is the rival Juventus in the semifinal of the Italian Cup on Friday. The match is played in Saudi Arabia.
