After eleven hours of debate, it became clear. Milan agrees to sell the football arena San Siro to the city's Serie A clubs Milan and Inter – for over 2 billion kronor.

After more than eleven hours of debate in the city hall, the sale was voted through at four o'clock on Tuesday morning with a small margin – 24 votes for, 20 against.

Inter and Milan had threatened to acquire a new arena outside Milan if the purchase did not go through.

The purchase (197 million euro, equivalent to 2.17 billion kronor) includes the adjacent area of 28 hectares, which today includes an arena parking lot and a park. On that surface, a new arena, with space for 71,500 spectators, will be built. When the new arena is completed, 2031 according to the plans, San Siro will be demolished to make way for, among other things, a new park area and office and entertainment complex.

The Italian Football Association plans to have Milan as one of the host cities for the European Championship 2032, which is organized together with Turkey.
