The last time Spain lost was in March 2024, in an international match against Colombia.

In addition to going unbeaten in 42 straight matches, Spain have won both the European Championship and the World Cup during this period.

Away to Croatia in the Nations League, Spain were dangerous for long periods, but substitute Mikel Merino helped them turn the game around for a 2-1 victory.

In the 61st minute, the Arsenal star made it 1-1 after Ivan Perišić had given Croatia the lead a quarter of an hour into the match.

In the 89th minute, Merino, who came on as a second-half substitute, also scored the winning goal.

On the way to winning World Cup gold in North America this summer, the 30-year-old came on late in two knockout matches and left the field as the match-winner.

Corrected version: Now with the correct number of matches without a loss.
