After the Signal Scandal, where confidential information was leaked to a journalist at The Atlantic, the American Defense Minister Pete Hegseth has been more questioned than security adviser Mike Waltz. Yet, it seems that Waltz will be leaving his position.
According to reports, Mike Waltz is on his way out, what would that mean?
Waltz has previously as a member of Congress been extremely negative towards Trump lately, but I see it primarily as a scapegoat because it has been a bit too messy in the defense and security sector, says Jan Hallenberg, professor emeritus in political science, associated with the Foreign Policy Institute (UI).
Stronger Loyalty
He also highlights that the personal loyalty between Pete Hegseth and Trump is stronger than that between Waltz and the President.
Trump's first term was more chaotic when it came to dismissals and resignations, where the President replaced parts of his staff at a more intense pace. Among other things, his security adviser was replaced after a few weeks.
This should appear as much more well-planned. But those who have scrutinized this have found several ministers and other potentates who make mistakes.
"Political Difference"
Hallenberg points out that Waltz was only appointed by the President, while Pete Hegseth was appointed by the Senate.
One has spent so much capital to get Hegseth in. To then throw him to the wolves after three-four months is too early. Then they acknowledge that it was a misstep. So there is a huge political difference between the gentlemen.
