Mikaela Shiffrin to focus on giant slalom and super-G, skipping most slalom races this season

Superstar Mikaela Shiffrin is shifting her focus to the upcoming World Cup season. The American will not fully commit to her signature event, slalom, this winter.

"Right now I'm most curious about giant slalom and super-G," the 31-year-old writes on Instagram.

Shiffrin is the greatest alpine skier of all time, with 110 World Cup victories, 73 of them in slalom. She has won two Olympic gold medals and four World Championship gold medals.

The plan is to race in the third slalom event of the season in Killington, Vermont, and possibly a few more, Shiffrin writes.

The World Cup season kicks off in Sölden, Austria, on October 24 with two giant slalom events.
