Already on Tuesday, Mikael Ymer stepped onto the court, but the match had to be interrupted due to rainy weather at the score 5–4 in the first set.
Ymer made his first start in Nordea Open since 2021. Two years ago, a notable brawl arose when Ymer declined a wildcard with the motivation that the competition management could "shove their money up their ass".
Thereafter, the 26-year-old was suspended for 18 months for violating doping rules after missing residence reporting.
Ymer, who made a comeback at the beginning of the year, is down at 618th place in the world ranking and 100th-ranked Botic van de Zandschulp was too tough.
"Must make changes"
The Dutchman served home the first set when the match resumed on Wednesday afternoon and outclassed Ymer in the second with 6–1.
Mikael Ymer, who has been ranked as high as 50 in the world, was self-critical afterwards.
I'm trying, but I must make some changes because this doesn't work. I'll have to talk to my team and make some corrections, he says.
All Swedes out
Big brother Elias Ymer has also played out in Båstad. The 29-year-old lost his match in the second round against sixth-seeded Italian Luciano Darderi in two sets (2–6, 2–6).
It was different today because I played against a local player, but the audience was respectful so thanks for that, says Darderi after the victory.
Sweden thus has no player left in the main tournament since 18-year-old William Rejchtman Vinciguerra, who like the Ymer brothers received a wildcard to the tournament, was previously knocked out in the first round.
