Backlund was on the ice for the first time in a few days when a handful of players trained at Hovet. The rest of the squad got a training break after the Wednesday evening's 6-0 win over Latvia.
NHL pro from Calgary doesn't want to disclose which injury he's struggling with, but admits he aggravated it against Finland.
It's always special against the Finns. Take and a lot of hits. I had to fight my way through that match. Afterwards, I felt it wasn't quite right. It was nice to rest for two days.
"Being smart"
I had some trouble with an injury in the winter, at the end of the second half, which I thought had healed but which I aggravated again.
In consultation with both Tre Kronor's and Calgary's medical teams, it was decided that a few days' rest would do good and speed up the healing process. Therefore, he didn't play against Latvia.
Have the doctors given the green light to play? Is it mostly up to you whether you play or not?
We have a dialogue. It felt good today. It won't be hundred percent good this tournament.
Exciting to watch a match
No harm that doesn't bring some good with it. Mikael Backlund got to watch a World Championship match with Tre Kronor from the stands.
A fun match to watch, especially the first two periods. When we score goals, we take over completely. The Latvians were dangerous back and forth and we knew that. It was exciting to go and watch a game at Avicii arena. It was a long time ago. Fantastic setting.
Tre Kronor have won their opening four matches in the group stage. The match against Slovenia starts at 20.20.
