The Calgary captain Mikael Backlund reinforces Tre Kronor in the home World Championship.
"Yes, I'm going and playing the World Championship", says the forward in a text message to Expressen.
"I'm going directly to the World Championship from here in Calgary. I need to land this season that was first. Become completely one hundred percent both mentally and physically. My daughter turns years old in early May, so I want to be here in Calgary then", he continues.
The 36-year-old has not played in the national hockey team since 2018 when he was part of the team that took the World Championship gold.
Teammate, defenseman Rasmus Andersson, is also clear for the World Championship games since Calgary missed the NHL playoffs Stanley Cup.
The World Championship is played in Stockholm and Danish Herning starting on May 9. Then Sweden meets Slovakia.
