The background is the high-profile accusation that Southampton spied on and filmed Middlesbrough's training ahead of the doubleheader.

According to Middlesbrough, there is evidence of the incident and the English Football League (EFL) has launched an investigation.

Middlesbrough, coached by Swede Kim Hellberg, have published a statement on their website calling on the EFL to act:

"We remain hopeful that the EFL will pursue such a sanction before the disciplinary committee to protect the integrity of the sport and deter any future attempts to gain an unfair and illegal advantage."
