Microsoft has signed a deal to buy AI cloud capacity from Australian company Iren. According to Bloomberg, the deal is worth about $9.7 billion.

The parties have signed a five-year agreement that will give Microsoft access to AI infrastructure built with, among others, Nvidia's GB300. Iren offers data centers that specialize in AI and will receive an upfront payment of 20 percent under the agreement.

Microsoft thus becomes the company's largest customer. Iren's shares rise 18 percent in American pre-market trading.
