In his Honda for the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team, the 26-year-old German, son of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, did not complete a lap in Sunday's IndyCar debut. Schumacher crashed and became stuck at the fourth corner on the first lap, where Sting Ray Robb and Santino Ferrucci were already present. None of the drivers were reported to have been seriously injured.

"It's racing," Schumacher said after a health check.

Spaniard Álex Palou, who has won the IndyCar championship for the past three years, won the season opener. Swedes Marcus Ericsson and Felix Rosenqvist finished sixth and twelfth, respectively.
