The 39-year-old British artist says he has a "long, tough journey ahead of me," he writes on Instagram, according to The Times.
Kiwanuka says the stroke was caused by high blood pressure. He does not say when he became ill, but says it was the reason several concerts in the US had to be cancelled.
“The brain injury I suffered was severe, so a lot of rehabilitation is required,” Kiwanuka writes.
Michael Kiwanuka broke through in 2012 with his guitar soul on the album "Home Again", which also ranked high on the Swedish charts. In 2020, he received the prestigious British music award Mercury Prize for his self-titled album "Kiwanuka".
