The first film takes place from the 1960s to 1988.
"There have been many other things that have happened, even within the time frame that the original film covers, that were not touched upon," Fogelson said, according to Variety.
The film has been criticized for not addressing allegations of sexual assault against the artist. It is unclear whether the sequel will address this, the newspaper writes.
"We estimate that we have already shot 25 to 30 percent of a second film from previous shoots," Fogelson says.
