Malmö's goal was scored by Hugo Bolin with half an hour left, when the 22-year-old slammed in home goalkeeper Etrit Berisha's rebound.
For a long time it looked like it would be the only goal of the match, but in the final minutes Simon Gustafson appeared in the penalty area and headed in Adam Lundkvist's cross.
MFF is now, with one more match played, five points ahead of Gais in third place, which gives them a qualification spot for the Conference League next season. The reigning champion team Malmö has only one match left to play and cannot therefore reach the European Games next season via the football allsvenskan.
Before the match, Häcken thanked club icon Peter Abrahamsson.
"It was very nice, I have to say. It's a bit difficult to take it all in, but what I took in was very nice anyway," Abrahamsson tells HBO Max.
The goalkeeper has been with Häcken since 2014 and has won several titles. This week, the 37-year-old announced that he is ending his career due to injury problems.
Right now it's pretty much a blank slate actually. We'll see what doors open and I'm pretty open to what's really going on, and see where life is for you now. But it's clear that there might be an opening in the club in some way, but otherwise I'm pretty open to most things, says Abrahamsson about the future.
We should also be able to spend more time with family and friends.
