Mexican military has killed 19 people suspected of being involved in the Sinaloa cartel in Mexico, according to the country's defense department.
The clash occurred on Monday, according to reports, when over 30 people attacked military personnel near the state capital Culiacán.
Violence in the state of Sinaloa has increased since the founder of the Sinaloa cartel, Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, was arrested last summer. The arrest has been followed by bloody conflicts between his relatives and the cartel's co-founder Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán's sons.
According to the defense department, those killed on Monday are believed to have belonged to Zambada's faction.
