The legal battles surrounding influential British politician and former European Union commissioner Peter Mandelson are taking new turns. The Metropolitan Police in London announced that properties belonging to "a 72-year-old man" have been searched.

Former high-ranking diplomat Mandelson, with close ties to the ruling Labour government and Prime Minister Keir Starmer, is facing heavy criticism over his close contacts with the convicted and now-deceased Jeffrey Epstein.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police, Hayley Sewart, confirmed on Friday that a special unit had carried out searches at two addresses in Wiltshire and in Camden. The police did not name the person whose properties were searched, but British media identified it as Mandelson.
