Norwegian media outlets went so far as to take the matter to court.
On October 28, the Oslo District Court decided to temporarily prevent the social media giant from implementing the new terms, which the media outlets said could lead to a loss of control over their own material.
According to Norwegian media, the new terms would have given Meta the right to collect content from every article, image and video published, including material behind a paywall.
The day after the district court’s decision, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone wrote on X that they “do not plan to make any policy changes without full consultation with industry associations” and that the existing terms would apply until further notice.
Meta owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
