39-year-old Messi retired from the national team this summer after leading the team to World Cup gold in 2022 and the World Cup final against Spain this year.
The Argentine Football Association has now announced that the national hero will make one last appearance in the national team jersey, against Benin in Buenos Aires.
"We have made the decision to invite the best player in the world, the symbol of our national team, our captain Lionel Andrés Messi, to give him the farewell he truly deserves on October 6," said federation president Chiqui Tapia in a video.
The entire team that won the World Cup in Qatar four years ago has been invited to the tributes to Messi.
