The 39-year-old captain flew back to Miami on Tuesday after attending the funeral of his father Jorge Messi in Argentina. Lionel Messi came on in the second half to a standing ovation.
After the cup match against León, which Inter Miami lost 2-3, Messi was praised by teammate and scorer Yannick Bright:
"I didn't expect it (Messi to play), but it shows how much he cares about the team. When I saw he was here I wanted to give 150 percent for him," Bright said, continuing:
It's a tough situation, we're trying to support as much as we can.
