The Menendez brothers, who have served over 30 years in prison, had their sentences corrected from life without parole to 50 years to life. This implies that, in accordance with California's legislation, they can apply for conditional release since they committed the crimes before they turned 26.

I'm not saying they should be released, it's not up to me to decide, says Michael Jesic, the judge in the case, and continues:

I believe they have done enough during these 35 years to earn it.

The brothers were sentenced to life imprisonment in 1990 for the murder of their parents. Several processes are ongoing in parallel to change the verdict, including the brothers seeking clemency from California's governor.

The case has been actualized with the Netflix series "Monster: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez" and the documentary "The Menendez brothers" from last year.
