Melwin Lycke Holm has, largely due to his surname and his father, always been in the spotlight. And when he also broke through as a 15-year-old with an unofficial world record in his age class at 2.17 meters, the headlines didn't decrease.
But it hasn't quite taken off for the 20-year-old. Most recently, Melwin Lycke Holm comes from a failure at the indoor European Championship and previously a second place at the Swedish Championship.
Results that have made him start thinking.
"Only gone downhill"
I started with high jump because I wanted to be the best, but it has more or less only gone downhill since I was 15 years old. So it's clear that it has become much more boring to do high jump and much more boring to go to training, he says in an interview with Expressen and continues:
It has been closer than ever that I quit. This winter I have felt "I hate this" and that I don't know how long I can keep going on like this.
Doing more on my own
This winter, he has also changed his training plan and moved away from the schedule that took his father and coach Stefan Holm to, among other things, an Olympic gold in 2004 and a World Championship silver in 2003.
Now this fall, I have chosen to do more on my own, because during the winter, my dad and I have been trying to outdo each other. It has become more and more that we want to outdo each other, says Lycke Holm jokingly.
