Meloni and her fellow party members in the right-wing nationalist Brothers of Italy celebrated their record-long time in power with a big party in the port city of Bari.
In a speech that, according to the AP news agency, was occasionally interrupted by supporters chanting "Giorgia, Giorgia," she praised her government’s focus on stability and ability to stand firm even when the wind blows.
"There have been days when it felt like I was swimming in glue, but I never gave up and I won’t start either," she said to the cheers of the audience.
Meloni took office on October 22, 2022, and including that day, her government on Wednesday surpassed Silvio Berlusconi’s record from 2005 to 2010, when he was prime minister for 1,412 days.
