Meloni and President Sergio Mattarella are heading to Modena, where a 31-year-old man has been arrested after he hit several people and crashed into a shop window. Eight people were injured, four seriously. One injured woman is said to have lost both her legs.
The suspect, after getting out of the car, allegedly tried to stab passersby who attempted to stop him. He was arrested after being overpowered by several people.
The man was not previously known to police. According to Italian media, there is nothing to indicate terrorism. The 31-year-old is said to have received treatment for mental illness a few years ago.
