Melania Trump Says Oleshky Ceasefire Enabled Aid Delivery and Evacuation of Nearly 800 People

The ceasefire in Russian-occupied Oleshky, in Ukraine’s Kherson region, was a success, according to US First Lady Melania Trump.

Urgent aid was able to reach the area, and nearly 800 people were evacuated, US First Lady Melania Trump said on X a few hours after the ceasefire ended.

“On behalf of the United States, I would like to commend Russia and Ukraine for their leadership and cooperation on the ceasefire in Oleshky. I hope that Oleshky can serve as a basis for lasting peace between the two countries,” Melania Trump wrote.

Russia attacked Kherson again on Monday, after the ceasefire negotiated by Pope Leo and Melania Trump expired on Sunday, according to Ukrainian sources. Ukraine says Russia rejected an extension of the ceasefire, which was the longest since the war began in 2022.
