In connection with roadworks in central Jönköping, archaeologists have found parts from the medieval church of S:t Nicolai. It is a 1100-century church that we have been searching for a long time. We have known that it has been lying here somewhere, so it is incredibly exciting that it is now revealed, says Susanne Nordström, project leader for the excavation, to P4 Jönköping.

The excavation provides new insights into the church's location and the adjacent cemetery.

Now we can piece together the puzzle pieces better for this cemetery, because we know that it was here that the town's population was buried between the 1100- and 1600-century, says Susanne Nordström.

A stone's throw away, the archaeologists have also found a cellar staircase from the 1500-century.
