The countries are reportedly working on a compromise to narrow the gap between American and Iranian demands to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, with the goal of paving the way for a meeting between the parties in Pakistan.
The report contradicts information in, among other outlets, the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, which on Friday said attempts to reach negotiations had been aborted.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote on Saturday on X that the country has "never refused to go to Islamabad."
“What we care about are the conditions for a final and lasting end to the illegal war being forced upon us,” he wrote.
