Just a few days ago, it was reported that Trump was choosing between Howard Lutnick, CEO of the investment bank Cantor Fitzgerald, and Scott Bessent, who founded the investment company Key Square Capital Management, writes The New York Times.
Was he annoying?
However, Lutnick, who is also part of Trump's transition team, is said to have been too pushy and annoyed the incoming president, according to sources. And Bessent was dismissed over the weekend by the super entrepreneur Elon Musk, who is close to Trump. This is because Musk does not think he is sufficiently open to change (he is too "business-as-usual" in English).
The two are not entirely out of the game, but the Republican election winner is also said to have asked Kevin Warsh, banker and former member of the Federal Reserve's board, as well as venture capitalist and billionaire Marc Rowan to come to the Florida residence Mar-a-Lago for talks.
Warsh had an advisory role in the White House when George W Bush was president and served as the Fed's contact person towards Wall Street during the financial crisis of 2007-08. He is now teaching economics at prestigious Stanford University.
Broadening the search
Trump, who has said he wants someone "big" for the position, has called Warsh "smart and stylish", according to The New York Times. But he is also said to be impressed by Rowan, who is CEO and co-founder of the venture capital company Apollo Global Management.
The Wall Street Journal also reports on the irritation surrounding the appointment and writes that the future president "broadened the search" for his finance minister candidate.
