"He got a blow to the knee and after an examination with our physio, he was forced to throw in the towel. It was really a shame, but health comes first, of course. It's also pointless to compete but not do it fully, besides, it increases the risk of injury", says Oscar Wester, national team captain, in a press release from the national team.

It was during a training session under last week's World Championship in French Tignes that the 24-year-old, who took World Championship gold in big air in 2021, crashed.

Both Olympic bronze medalists from Beijing 2022, Jesper Tjäder (slopestyle) and Henrik Harlaut (big air), are already missing. Tjäder's cruciate ligament ruptured at the beginning of February and he is expected to be out for a year, while Harlaut is skipping the entire season due to a serious hip injury.

Sweden is now fielding three championship debutants in freeskiing in the form of Axel Burmansson, Martin Nordqvist, and Victor Knutsen.

For the Swedes, the World Championship begins on Wednesday with slopestyle qualifying.
