Sweden is doing too little to reduce shipping's emissions of harmful substances, according to the National Audit Office.
In a new audit report, it is stated that the state's current efforts are ineffective – and in most cases will not lead to actual reductions of emissions in the short term.
Among other things, Swedish harbors lack sufficient capacity to receive harmful substances.
"It often involves large quantities of harmful substances that ships need to leave in harbor", says Fredrik Engström, project leader for the audit, in a press release.
